Gary A. Bunders of Prairie du Chien passed away on his 75th birthday, Friday, Jan. 30, from complications of a recent surgery. 

He was born Jan. 30, 1940 in Cincinnati, Ohio, the son of Andrew and Lee (Gillespie) Bunders. He married Marie Nagle and they later divorced. He married Sheryll Paczynski on Aug. 26, 2001. Gary was a millwright and carpenter by trade. He owned and operated the Skyway Motel and Stained Glass Pub in Prairie du Chien for many years. Gary helped organize the Great American Fire Engine Race and was one of the original buckskinners involved in the Prairie du Chien Rendezvous. He was renowned for his turtle stew. Gary enjoyed hunting, fishing and collecting antiques such as marbles, decoys, plates, along with many types of art. 

He is survived by his wife Sheryll of Prairie du Chien; his sons Bubba (Eve Whitaker) Bunders of Edgerton, and Derek (Angela) Bunders of Sun Prairie. He was preceded in death by his parents. 

A memorial service will be Friday, May 22, 2015 at 11 a.m. at St. Gabriel’s Church of the Holy Family Parish with interment in the Calvary Cemetery both in Prairie du Chien. Friends may call at the church on Friday, May 22, 2015 from 10 a.m. until the time of services. The Garrity Funeral Home of Prairie du Chien is assisting the family.
