Alan Oscar Nyberg, 70, of Prairie du Chien, formerly of Postville, Iowa died on Saturday, Feb. 21, at Gundersen Lutheran Health Systems, La Crosse. 

He was born on Oct. 20, 1944 in Postville, Iowa to Allard and Jacqueline (Lane) Nyberg. He graduated from Postville High School and attend Upper Iowa University in Fayette, Iowa where he obtained a BA degree in business administration. Alan was united in marriage with Katherine Handke in 1968, they later divorced.

Alan was employed at a credit union in Fort Dodge, Iowa. After doing some traveling out west he started to work in the antique area of guns, duck decoys, fishing items and other general antiques. For many years Alan worked with his step-father, Keith, in collecting and researching Indian Artifacts. He later joined Keith working full-time in his business, Thunderbird Indian Artifacts. He traveled over 17 western states, attending auctions and meeting other sellers of Indian artifacts. Keith turned the business over to Alan in 2004 and continued to assist him.

Alan enjoyed going to the movies, and always wanted to be the first one to see a new one when it came out in theaters. He was an avid sports fan, he loved watching the Iowa Hawkeyes. When he walked into a room he filled it like a ray of sunshine. He will be greatly missed by all who loved him.

Alan is survived by his children, Shannon (fiancé, Steve Haberkorn) Nyberg of McGregor, Iowa, Ben Petersen of Boscobel, Sarah Grady of Marquette, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Bryant Nyberg, Blake Stover, Kaeli Jandro, Karly Ann Jandro, Dawson Lease, Annabelle Lease and Wyatt Haberkorn; great-grandchild, Chance Nyberg; step-father, Keith (Janet) Schroeder of Waukon, Iowa;  nieces and nephews, Carey (Jean) Ash of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Troy Hartman of California, Dustin (Diane) Hartman of Des Moines, Iowa, Melisa (Gary) Lehmann of Elgin, Iowa and Amanda (Joel)  Stetler of Colorado and sisters, Cheryl Ash of Waukon, Iowa and Kathy Nyberg of Waukon, Iowa.

Alan was preceded in death by his parents, Allard and Jacqueline Nyberg; brother, David Schroeder and nephew, Jamey Ash.

Visitation will be on Thursday, Feb. 26, 2015 from 4-7pm at Schutte-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Postville, Iowa. 

Funeral Services will be at 7:00 pm on Thursday, Feb. 26, 2015 at Schutte-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Postville, Iowa with Greg Hamm as the Officiant. Burial will be at a later date in Postville Cemetery.
