Marilyn Margaret Meyer, 96, of Garnavillo, died Friday, Feb. 20, 2015, at the Guttenberg Care Center.

Private family services will be at a later date.

Arrangements are being handled by Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home, Garnavillo.  

Marilyn was born the daughter of John H. and Carrie (Meyer) Meyer on the family farm four miles northwest of Garnavillo on Dec. 10, 1918. 

Marilyn was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Garnavillo.  She was always a member of St. Paul’s Church. Marilyn went to the Equity Country School, ¾ mile from her home. She graduated from the Garnavillo High School.  She received her Bachelors of Arts degree from Grinnell College and her Master in Arts from the University of Iowa.  Marilyn taught for 30 years in four secondary schools, all in Iowa.  Following this, she did some substitute teaching in several schools in her home county.

Survivors are second cousins.

She was preceded in death by her father; her mother; her brother, Louis Meyer; sister, Lavern Roggman; brother-in-law, Arnold Roggman and her sister-in-law, Margaret Louise Meyer.

In lieu of flowers and all styles of sympathy, memorials are preferred and may be sent to St. Paul Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 10, Garnavillo, IA 52049.
