Harold "Red" Neal, 84, of Guttenberg and of Cocoa Beach, Fla., entered into eternal peace surrounded by his family on Feb. 26, 2015.

Visitation will be Friday, March 6, from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Hoffmann Schneider and Kitchen Funeral Home, Dubuque and 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. before services at the funeral home.

Funeral services will be 12:00 noon, Saturday, March 7, at the funeral home, conducted by Deacon John Stierman.

Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery.  Military honors will be accorded by the American Legion Post #6.

Harold “Red” Neal, formerly of Dubuque, was born June 23, 1930, in Manchester. He served with the U.S. Army from 1948 to 1952. He married Lois Winders on June 6, 1953. They would have celebrated 62 years of marriage this June.  He was employed by the Dubuque Packing Company for 30 years.  

Throughout their married life, he and Lois enjoyed their summers on Esmann Island, Guttenberg, and eventually made it their home.  His favorite activities included spending time with family and friends, fishing, boating, playing cards,  driving his golf cart with his beloved dog Bailey, and spending his winters in Florida for over 20 years.

Friends and family members fondly remember Red as the best fisherman on the island who always had a story and a smile. Red will always be remembered for saying "You have a good day now!"  He was a friend to everyone and embraced life.

Red leaves his loving memories to be cherished by his wife, Lois; children, Cathy (Ken) Schmitt, Patti Shannon, Mike (Amy) Neal, Kim Jacovitz (Paul Lynn); sons-in-law, Randy Smith and Larry Holt; 16 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren; siblings, Grace Frommelt, Helen Warden and Walter (Rose) Neal; in-laws, Jan Neal, Donna (Wayne) Gratton, Sandi Juergens and Denny (Loretta) Winders.

Red is preceded in death by his parents, Wesley and Nellie (Turner) Neal; a daughter, Susan Smith; father and mother-in-law, Ray and Dorothy Winders; brothers, Howard and Burdette; sister, Gretta Thomas; sister-in-law, Lois Neal; and brothers-in-law, Joseph Frommelt and Don Thomas.    

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to Hospice of Health First, Cape Canavarel Inpatient Unit. Cocoa Beach, FL 32931.
