George F. “Bud” Witte, 91, of Garnavillo, passed away on Monday, April 20, 2015, at the Guttenberg Care Center.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

Leonard Funeral Home and Cremation Service is in charge of arrangements.

Bud was born Dec. 19, 1923, to Harvey Witte Sr. and Florence (Tieden) Witte, in Elkader. He was united in marriage to Bernadine Moser on April 22, 1951. She passed away March 23, 2003. Bud was a long-time farmer in the Garnavillo area, and a wonderful son, brother, husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was an avid fisherman, a member of the “Dead Lake Five” Canadian Fishing group, the Elkader Golf and Country Club and Peace United Church of Christ (UCC) in Elkader.

Survivors include a son, Gary Witte, Garnavillo; three daughters, Sue (Tom) Worley, Omaha, Neb.; Joyce (Peter) Kann, Garnavillo, and Julie (Todd) Shepherd, Iowa City; four grandchildren, Casey (Kristen) Kann, Kelly (Brian) Trzesniak; Marc and Laura Shepherd; four great-grandchildren, Rhowan and Adalyn Trzesniak, Ava and Carter Kann; a sister, Betty (Jack) McGee of Grand Blanc, Mich.; sister-in-law, LaVon Witte of Marion; numerous nieces and nephews, and his special canine companion, Jada.

Bud was preceded in death by his parents; wife; brother, Harvey and sister-in-law, Judy Hagen.
