A Mississippi Mud Challenge will be held Saturday, Aug. 8, in conjunction with Celebrate the River. Organizers will lead participants in a series of comical strength, balance, and agility tests resulting in the crowning of Miss Issippi and Mr. Mud.

Spectators and adult participants ages 18 and up should gather in the lot just south of the municipal building, on the 500 block of South First Street, at 1:00 p.m., for registration and rules. Participants should be dressed to get dirty. Tennis shoes and goggles are required for safety (and entertainment.) If participants do not bring goggles, a pair will be provided.

Participation is free, and registrants will be asked to sign a waiver and provide a fun personal fact and a creative pseudonym for themselves as competitors.

The adult challenge will begin at 1:15 p.m., with the announcment of participants. Individual events will include mud arm wrestling, tug of war, long jump, yoga, and more.

Youth will be invited to play in the mud following the conclusion of the adult challenge. Informal youth events, including puddle jumping, mudpie making, and throwing said mudpies at a target, will begin at 3:00 p.m.

Event supporters include the Guttenberg Golf Course, Jeff Friedlein,  and GEIDC.
