William J. “Bill” Hubbard, 75, of Prairie du Chien passed away Thursday, Aug. 20, at his home surrounded by his family. 

He was born Aug. 31, 1939 in Prairie du Chien the son of Lester and Mabel (Valley) Hubbard. He served in the US Army during the Vietnam War. He married Yvonne DuCharme on Nov. 12, 1963 in Preston, Minn. Bill worked for John Deere in Horicon, for 16 years before returning to this area. He began clamming and went on to own and operate Hidden Valley Shell as a clam buyer. Bill developed a fishing tackle business and later owned and operated Hubbard’s Fishing Float near the Lynxville Lock and Dam. Bill loved everything outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing and trapping. He was an active member of the American Legion. 

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Yvonne Hubbard of Prairie du Chien; his children, Dawn Hubbard of Holmen, William of Harpers Ferry, Iowa, Shad (Kim) Hubbard and Starr (Nik) Damro both of Milwaukee; his grandchildren, Steven, Amber (Drew), Anya, Claire, Emma, Harper and Lola. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter Holly; his parents; his sisters, Charlotte Wayne and Katherine Martin along with his brother Kenneth Hubbard.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, Aug. 24, at 11 a.m. at St. John’s Church of the Holy Family Parish, Rev. James Weighner officiating with burial in the Calvary Cemetery both in Prairie du Chien. Military honors will be accorded by the Prairie du Chien Honor Guard. Friends may call on Sunday, Aug. 23, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Garrity Funeral Home in Prairie du Chien where there will be a wake scripture at 6:30 p.m.
