It's that time of year again for the 18th annual River Park Cruisers Car Show, Cruise and Dance, to be held Saturday, Sept. 19.

The day begins with car registration from 9 a.m.-12 noon, followed by the car show from 12 noon to 2 p.m. You can come down and browse through the streets on River Park Drive and check out some of the beautiful classic cars while listening to some oldies but goodies music.

We will have five blocks filled with cars from all over, with several  top dollar classic cars, from the corner of Sodes all the way north to Main Street by the hospital. There will be vendors serving food for your convenience. Please note there is no bicycle riding allowed around the classic cars!

New this year we will be giving out trophies at 3:30 p.m.  by The Welcome Center after the car show (instead of at Lakeside Ballroom).

At 4:30 we will then do a short cruise, leaving on Schiller Street, left on Highway 52, right on Garber Road, left on Osterdock Road to Colesburg X47, turn right on X3C to Sears Station, right on Garber Road past Plagman Barn and take a left on Kale Ave. (X47) to Highway 52, then a right and back into Guttenberg.

We will get back into Guttenberg at 5:30 p.m. giving cruisers time to eat somewhere in Guttenberg before going to the dance at Lakeside Ballroom. Richie Lee and The Fabulous 50’s will be playing for a full house of dancers from 7-11 p.m. Get there early to get a seat and enjoy some great food — you won't want to miss this.

There are 75 couples in our car club (River Park Cruisers) this year. This is many more from when we first started in 1992 when we had only eight couples. We have grown so much it's hard to remember all their names. We expect this year's car show to be the biggest ever — we will exceed last year's show with 205 show cars plus many more in the car cruise.

Leaders of the club are: Bob and Donna Hinzman and directors are Carson and Karla Palmer, Stan Blair and Karen, Terry  and Joan Lubbers, Peg and Ron Schroeder, Don and Jeanne Niosi, James and Michelle Fassbinder and Dave and Sheryl Bahls.

Proceeds from the annual  Car Show will be given to area entities  that are in need.

The plaque this year features members Delbert and Marla Reimer's 1970 Corvette; they are from Elkader. Their name was drawn out of a hat at Hinzman’s annual "meal in a milk can" supper, so their car will be the leader of the cruise and will be the featured car on the plaque.
