Leonard “Leo” Weipert, 59, of McGregor, Iowa passed away Saturday, Sept. 12, at Atrium Post Acute Care in Lancaster. 

Leonard Junior Weipert, the son of Leonard Neuman and Ruth Wilda (King) Weipert, was born May 1, 1956 in Waukon, Iowa. He attended Waukon High School.

Leo was united in marriage with Carolyn Marie Hamann in 1972. Leo and Carolyn later separated, but remained longtime friends. Leo worked for the Milwaukee Railroad for a few years. He then worked as a logger with J & J Logging in McGregor and owned his own tree trimming business, Weipert Family Tree Service, in McGregor.

Leo enjoyed helping people in town, shoveling sidewalks and running errands for them. He loved to watch NASCAR and was a huge Jeff Gordon fan, he also enjoyed watching the Dallas Cowboys and fishing.

Leo is survived by two children, Dawn Marie Curley of Prairie du Chien, Cory Allen (Nicole Marsh) Weipert of McGregor, Iowa; four grandchildren, Nathan Walz, Ceara Curley, Alisha Kelly, and Trevor Kelly; a great-grandson, Wyatt James Walz; his special friend, Donna Loeffler of McGregor, Iowa; his mother, Ruth Weipert of North Carolina; two brothers, Tom (Gloria) Weipert of North Carolina; and Jerry (Katie) Weipert of Waukon; and two sisters, Marie Grimes and Rita Deeny.

Leo was preceded in death by his father, Leonard Weipert, Sr.

A visitation service was held Thursday, Sept. 17. Thornburg-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, McGregor, Iowa assisted the family with the arrangements.
