Margaret C. Lorenz, 100, of Lancaster, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 14, at Great River Care Center in McGregor, Iowa. 

Margaret was born on Jan. 1, 1915, on the family farm in Buena Vista, Iowa, the daughter of Frank and Catherine (Hauck) Adams. In her teen years, she moved to Lancaster and married Max Lorenz in 1936 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Dubuque, Iowa. Margaret was a hard worker and had a variety of jobs over the years, such as waitressing at the Rainbo Grill, factory work in Dubuque, and custodian work at the R.E.A. Her main job was raising her six children. She loved gardening, boating and camping with her family. Margaret sang in the choir at church and enjoyed playing her organ at home. She was a wonderful cook and her apple pies were the best.

Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Max; her parents; four brothers; two sisters; and two great-grandsons.

Survivors include her six children, Sally (Carl) Lickel, Potosi, Max (Judy) Lorenz, Dubuque, Iowa, Pat (Kay) Lorenz, Prairie du Chien, Jim (Usa) Lorenz, Nashville, Tenn., Mary (Larry) Duncan, Lancaster, Dan (Rosalee) Lorenz, Prairie du Chien; twenty-two grandchildren; thirty-one great-grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, Oct. 19, at 11 a.m. at St. Clement Catholic Church in Lancaster with Reverend John Sasse officiating. Burial will be in St. Clement Cemetery, Lancaster. Family and friends may call on Monday from 9:30 a.m. until time of services at the church. Schwartz Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Lancaster is serving the family.
