Janice Le Rhea Mae (Cahalan) McGeough-Donahue, 78, of Guttenberg, formerly of Waterville, died Tuesday, Jan. 5, at Guttenberg Care Center in Guttenberg, Iowa. Janice was born on Nov. 14, 1937 to Woodrow and Gretta (Huffman) Cahalan in rural Harpers Ferry. She attended Smoky Hallow Country School, Marquette Grade School and Waukon High School.

Janice was united in marriage with LeRoy V. McGeough on July 3, 1954 at St. Pius Cherry Mound Catholic Church in Harpers Ferry. Ten children were born to this union. LeRoy passed away on Dec. 18, 1990.  She was united in marriage to John Francis Donahue on Oct. 23, 1992 in Lansing.  She farmed and worked for Northern Engraving in Waukon, for over thirty years.  Janice loved country music, fishing, mushroom hunting, sewing, quilting, playing cards and was a great cook.  She enjoyed spending time with her pets, but most of all loved being with her family.  She was a member of the Waterville city council for many years and the St. Pius Cherry Mound Catholic Church.  She taught Sunday school for many years as well.  She was very proud of her Irish heritage.

Janice is survived by her eight children, Larry (Lisa) McGeough of Willard, Mo., Pat (Debbie) McGeough of Waukon, Roberta (Bill) Tesar of McGregor, Kenny (Monica) McGeough of Waterville, Peggy (Craig) Schultz of McGregor, Molly (Bob) Wasechek of Prairie du Chien, Matt McGeough of Prairie du Chien and Erin (Will) Zeeh of McGregor; one daughter-in-law, Cindy (Neil) Landt of Monona; twenty grandchildren; twenty five great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; one brother, Jack (Jan) Cahalan of Waterville; one sister, Cheryl Neels of Savanna, Ill.; one sister-in-law, Catherine (Dayton) Jones of Harpers Ferry; and many nieces and nephews. 

Janice was preceded in death by her first husband, LeRoy V. McGeough on Dec. 18, 1990; second husband, John Francis Donahue on July 31, 2008; parents, Woodrow and Gretta (Huffman) Cahalan; daughter, Monica McGeough; son, Morry McGeough; twin granddaughters, Charity and Chastity McGeough; one grandson, Willie McGeough; one brother, Earl Cahalan and son-in-law, Gary Dahlstrom.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to McGregor or Waterville Fire and Rescue or Cherry Mound Cemetery. 

Memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 9, 2016 at Thornburg-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, McGregor, Iowa with a two hour visitation before services at the funeral home on Saturday. There will be a rosary at 10:15 am.  Rev. Nils de Jesus Hernandez will be the Officiant.

 

Private Family Inurnment will be at a later date at St Pius Cherry Mound Cemetery, Harpers Ferry, Iowa.

 

Thornburg-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, McGregor, Iowa is helping the family with the arrangements.
