The Prairie du Chien Memorial Library expansion project now has over $350,000 of the $1.5 million that’s needed from the capital campaign before construction begins in 2017.

The Prairie du Chien Memorial Library’s capital campaign has passed the $350,000 mark, thanks to a $100,000 contribution from Peoples State Bank. Last year, the city announced a $1.5 million campaign to match a $1.5 million common council contribution to the project. Estimated at $3 million, the project is scheduled to begin in the spring of 2017.

“A key component to the Capital Campaign will be the support of local businesses, and the contribution by Peoples State Bank is a large step forward in reaching our ultimate goal,” City Administrator Aaron Kramer said. “The city of Prairie du Chien is blessed with pro-active businesses who truly believe in moving the city forward and improving the quality of life for today’s residents as well as those who will enjoy the expanded library for decades to come. As we have stated in the past, every donation—no matter how large or small—is very appreciated and needed.”

“Peoples State Bank has always been a strong supporter of projects that benefit the communities that we have offices in,” Peoples State Bank President Mark Forsythe said. “This library remodel will benefit all residents in the city and the surrounding communities in Wisconsin and Iowa.”

The library expansion and modernization project is aimed at bringing the facility into the 21st century with expanded areas for programming and books, as well as quiet reading areas, access to technology, and separation of staff work areas from public areas. The project will also allow the facility to be used outside normal library hours without the necessity for library staff to be present. Technology will be incorporated throughout the building, which means that not only the program room but also the smaller study rooms may be used for online meetings and classes. The library will also be able to display art and have cultural displays that have not been possible before.

To provide additional information about the capital campaign, the library project, and how individuals and businesses may contribute to the fundraising efforts, a website is available at www.prairieduchien.info/LibraryExpansion.html.
