Albert “Al” Bouzek, 83, of Marion, passed away Saturday, Feb. 27, at Crestview Acres Care Facility in Marion.

Al was born Feb. 26, 1933, to George and Natalie (White) Bouzek in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin. After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the United States Army and served in the Korean Conflict. Al was employed at Harnischfeger for 36 years. He attended St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion and was a member of Knights of Columbus and American Legion Post #298 of Marion. Al was a kind and simple man, who lived a simple life. He would start every morning with breakfast at Hy-Vee in Marion with his buddies. He then would go home to his beloved lawn and garden until dusk. Al enjoyed helping his neighbors with shoveling snow and mowing. He would grab hundreds of night crawlers, pick buckets full of wild raspberries and go fishing and turtle hunting with his friend Leonard Jandik. His favorite place to go fishing was in Prairie du Chien on the Mississippi with his sister and brother-in-law, Marilee and Ed Millin. Al and Ann took many trips to Las Vegas and to Memphis. They were season ticket holders to the Iowa Hawkeyes football games and loved Hawkeye Basketball and the Chicago Cubs. As his Alzheimers grew worse, they would take daily rides all around Iowa.

Survivors include his loving and longtime companion, Ann Harriman; his children, Rick (T.J.) Bouzek, Chris (Bob) Dvorak, Randy (Linda) Bouzek, Carol (Doug) Parrish, Russel (Sheila) Bouzek, Julie (Mark) Carson, Roger (Dawn) Bouzek and Pamela Woldruff; Ann’s children, Bob (Lynne) Harriman of Florida, Julie Speich, also Al’s caregiver, of Marion, and Jody (Paula) Harriman of Davenport; his siblings, Ann Tippery, Marilee (Ed) Millin, and Phil (Marilyn) Bouzek all of Prairie du Chien; Ann’s grandson, Jim Speich, also Al’s caregiver, of Cedar Rapids; also surviving are several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Edwin and Frances; sister, Virginia; and brother-in-law, Jerry Tippery.

Private family services will be held; arrangements were made by Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion.
