Carson John James Stocks, 74, of Garnavillo, passed away on February 21, 2016. He was born on August 25, 1941, to Myrel and Amanda (Ihde) Stocks on the Ihde Homestead near Garnavillo where he currently resided.

After kindergarten, Carson and his parents moved to a farm near Littleport where Carson attended Littleport School and then graduated from Central of Elkader with the Class of 1961.  In 1960, Carson’s family moved back to the home farm near Garnavillo where Carson farmed with his parents.

On November 21, 1971, Carson married Elaine Peake. They have two daughters, Melissa and Susan. Carson and Elaine farmed his home farm until 1987. Carson then worked for Red’s Fix-It Shop and Double L until he retired.

Carson enjoyed classic cars and antique tractors, especially his Farmall H and 460. He was very meticulous about his farm equipment and his tools were always neatly organized. He loved spending time with family and friends; and looked forward to Sunday mornings with their friends at Peace Church in Clayton.  He was always up for a game of cards and he enjoyed playing ball in the yard with his family. Carson treasured all the time he spent with his grandson, Joshua, and trying to catch the big one when they went fishing on the Mississippi.

Carson is survived by his wife of 44 years; Elaine of Garnavillo; two daughters; Melissa Stocks Stade and her husband, Scott, of Garnavillo; Susan Stocks Noack and her husband, Craig, of Guttenberg; one grandson, Joshua Stade of Garnavillo; his mother-in-law; Irene Peake; and a brother-in-law; Dean Peake, both of Garnavillo. Although Carson was an only child, he had a brother and a sister in his cousins, Gary (Nancy) Kuehl and Judy (Kuehl) Koth.

Carson was preceded in death by his parents, Myrel, in 1977 and Amanda, in 1982; and his father-in-law, Fleet Peake in 2008.

Graveside services were held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, February 24, 2016, at Garnavillo City Cemetery, Garnavillo. Friends met the family Wednesday, February 24, 2016, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Garnavillo Community Center in Garnavillo.
