Ann Hayes
Ann Hayes, 62, of Dubuque passed away Sunday, Feb. 28, 2016, at home.
Friends may greet the family from 2 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, March 2, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 1701 Rhomberg Ave., Dubuque, and from 8:30 a.m to 9:30 a.m. Thursday at Hoffmann Schneider and Kitchen Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 3860 Asbury Road, Dubuque.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 3, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, conducted by Rev. Kyle Digmann.
Burial will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at Immaculate Conception Cemetery, North Buena Vista.
Ann was born Sept. 11, 1953, in Dubuque, the daughter of Ed and Rita (Ruden) Hefel. She attended grade school in North Buena Vista, and graduated from Leo High School in Holy Cross with the class of 1971. She married her high school sweetheart, Tim Hayes, on July 1, 1972, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in North Buena Vista.
Ann was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Dubuque, where she enjoyed helping out with many parish functions.
Ann ran a home daycare until 1988, and touched the lives of many families, and continued to stay in touch with them. She then went to work at William C. Brown Publishing, Kendall Hunt, and McGraw Hill, retiring in 2014.
Ann will be remembered for her excellent advice, generosity and kindness, energetic nature, deep faith, and loving and bubbling personality. She had an abundance of friends who were important to her, including The Point Girls, The Bowling Team, Girls Club, The Brownie Girls, friends from the Class of ’71, and the Moracco Card Couples. She enjoyed her Girls Vacations in Minnesota with her sister Mary and family. Ann left a positive imprint on everyone she met.
She enjoyed her many groups of friends, outings with her sisters, sewing, cooking for her family, garage sales, helping others, and all the friendships she and Tim shared as a couple.
Ann was so proud of her two sons and daughters-in-law, and most importantly, Ann cherished every minute spent with family and friends, especially her four grandsons.
Survivors include her husband, Tim; two sons, Brian (Jen) Hayes and Marty (Tonya) Hayes; four grandsons, Henry, Charlie, Ben, and Oliver Hayes, all of Dubuque; her siblings, Mary (Dave) Breitbach of North Buena Vista, Helen (Rich) Deutmeyer of Luxemburg, Kay (Bill) Kreeb of Dyersville, Roger (Janet) Hefel and Mark “Fritz” (Sue) Hefel, both of North Buena Vista, and Carol (Gary) Wedewer of Petersburg; a brother-in-law, Bob (Sherry) Hayes of Holy Cross; many nieces and nephews; and her best friends for 37 years, Mary and Joann.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her father- and mother-in-law, Louis and Ruth Hayes; two brothers, Dick in 1966 and Jim in 2013; and a nephew, Ed Breitbach.
We wish to thank all the wonderful people at Hospice of Dubuque who helped Ann on her final journey, and all the nurses who provided such wonderful care throughout her illness.
In lieu of flowers we ask each of you to do a random act of kindness in honor of Ann. An Ann Hayes Memorial Fund has been established.
