Pamela Sue (Johnson) Freitag, 54, passed away at Central Community Hospital on Feb. 23, 2016, after battling a life-long illness. 

Visitation was Thursday, Feb. 25, at Leonard Funeral Home in Elkader and one hour before services at the church on Friday.

Funeral services were Friday, Feb. 26, at Peace United Church of Christ in Elkader, conducted by Rev. Donna Buckman.

Interment was at East Side Cemetery, Elkader.

Pam was born in Hinsdale, Ill., to Paul L. and Betty L. (Pust) Johnson on Aug. 7, 1961. She was a graduate of Central Community School and attended Kirkwood Community College. On April 4, 1981 she married Dennis Freitag at Bethany Lutheran Church in Elkader. To this union, a daughter, Ann Marie, was born.

Pam enjoyed doing child daycare while Ann was pre-school age. She also worked for The Pizza Place, Land’s End, and as a cashier at Wilke’s Grocery Store. Pam enjoyed, with her twin sister Patty, working with and showing horses and earned numerous show ribbons. She was most proud of her mare, Starfire. Pam also enjoyed grooming, raising and training miniature schnauzers and won two awards with her prized dog, Dutchess. She enjoyed boating, traveling and riding her moped, but most of all she cherished her family.

Pam is survived by her husband, Dennis; daughter, Ann (T.J.) Casper; three grandsons, Ethan, Aurick, and Owen; mother, Betty Johnson; sister, Paula (Lee) Embretson; two brothers, Mark Johnson and Steve (Lynn) Johnson; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ivan and Phyllis Freitag; brother-in-law, Dwight Freitag; sister-in-law, Lori (Matt) Fink; extended family including aunts, uncles, cousins, numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, Paul Johnson; twin sister, Patricia; brother-in-law, Kevin Newbern; a niece, Elisha Embretson; sister-in-law, Regina Johnson; and maternal and paternal grandparents.
