The main portion of the McGregor veterans memorial was erected last week in Cannon Park, following months of planning by McGregor Boy Scout Hunter Jensen, who completed the memorial for his Eagle Scout project.

Jensen said this piece—an all-veterans memorial—signifies the entrance to the memorial. The plan is for other scouts or community members to eventually add stones—one for each branch of the military—around this piece, in a pentagon shape.

Jensen designed the memorial with help from the McGregor Legion and AMVETS. He said Brian Wade provided help with concrete, while his fellow scouts also helped with the memorial’s base. The monument was developed and placed by Lewiston Monument Co., from Lewiston, Minn.

“It means a lot,” Jensen said of creating this memorial for local veterans. “They’ve been waiting for a long time. I’m glad it’s in.”

Legion adjutant Bob Eggen, a Korean War veteran, watched the installation of the memorial, noting that the project was something the Legion and AMVETS have considered for many years.

“I’m glad Hunter got the ball rolling,” he said. “I think people will be more interested once they see it’s going.”
