Roger Lee Bernhard died after a long illness, in Rawlins Wyo., were he had traveled to attend the wedding of his youngest granddaughter. 

Roger married Janet (Kluesner) on Oct. 27, 1989 in McGregor Iowa, and they made their home on the farm east of Monona.

Roger was a veteran of the U. S. Army and served in Korea from 1957 thru 1959. After serving his country, he returned to Iowa. Roger worked at Collins Radio in Cedar Rapids for a while before returning to his real love of farming. He also worked at Norplex in Postville, Iowa for a period of time. 

Roger enjoyed farming, hunting and fishing and shooting at the range on the farm, spending time with his large family and thought the world of his nieces and nephews.

Roger was a very kind man and never knew a stranger. He enjoyed the company of everyone he met and was the person you would call if you needed help with anything.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents Howard and Alice (Olson) Bernhard and stepdaughter Jeri Lynn Sanders.

Roger is survived by his wife of 26 years Janet (Kluesner) Bernhard; stepsons Jeff (Nancy) Sanders of Sinclair, Wyo. and Joel Sanders of Morrow, Ohio; grandchildren Travis (Roulie) Dregne of Boscobel, Austin Arthofer of Denver, Colo., Sterling Hall of Logan, Utah, Samantha (Lucas) Haugh of Oceanside, Calif., Savannah (Davin) Kauppila of Rawlins, Wyo., Kyle (Stephanie) Sanders of Kings Mills, Ohio, Kelvin Sanders of Crestview, Fla., Kody Sanders of Morrow, Ohio and Kindall Sanders of New River Air Station, N.C.; great grandchildren, James Dregne, Preston and Parker Sanders, Deklyn Kauppila and Aubrynn Haugh; brothers Dean (Linda) Bernhard of Monona, Russell (Marlene) Bernhard of McGregor, Donnie (Teresa) Bernhard of Monona; nieces and nephews Julie (Kevin) McCauley of Center Point, Iowa, Kelly (Lenny) Bulman of Waukon, Kim (Bill) Dickey of Prairie du Chien, Lacy (Scott) Rumph of McGregor, Jess (Sally) Bernhard and Josh (Heather) Bernhard of all of North Liberty, Iowa, Allison (Steve) Kuehl of Monona and Andy (Sara) Bernhard of Calmar; great nieces and nephews Mason, Mitchell, Madison, Lyvia, Lanci, Leah, Laryn, Beau, Dylan, Dustin, Rachel, Kaitlyn, Brice, Brooke, Bristol, Parker and Cooper.

A funeral service celebrating Roger’s life, will be held July 14, at the Living Faith Parish United Methodist Church in Monona, Iowa. Visitation is scheduled from 1 to 3 p.m. at the church, followed by the funeral at 3 p.m. with military honors completing the service.
