Vera Burkhalter, 93, of Prairie du Chien, died Thursday, July 14, at Prairie Maison, Prairie du Chien. 

Vera Mae was born to Clarence and Bertha (Nelson) Gibson on Dec. 12, 1922 in Selma, Iowa. 

Vera Mae Gibson was united in marriage with Marvin W. Burkhalter on Oct. 21, 1939 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ottumwa, Iowa. Vera worked many years at Memorial Hospital and Convalescent Center in Prairie du Chien. She loved animals and always had a cat and dog. Vera especially loved German Shepherds. She enjoyed feeding and watching the birds, listening to country and western music. Her favorite was The Andy Doll Band, of which she was the president of his fan club for many years, she took care of the newsletter and other things associated with the fan club. Vera was a faithful member of the Grace Lutheran Church in Prairie du Chien. She loved it when her great-grandchildren would come to visit her at Prairie Maison. She will be missed and remembered by many.

Vera Mae is survived by her children, Marvin Burkhalter of Pineville, La., Larry (Jetta Mezera) Burkhalter of McGregor, Iowa, Lorna Burkhalter of Muskego, and Celia (Jerry) Brown of Monona, Iowa; fourteen grandchildren and many great-grandchildren;  two siblings, Edith Bingaman of Cantril, Iowa and Bill Gibson of West Grove, Iowa and daughter-in-law, Linda Burk-
halter.

Vera Mae was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Burkhalter; her parents, Clarence and Bertha Gibson; son, Tony Burkhalter; two granddaughters, Lynda Burkhalter and Karen Bauer; brother, Marvin Gibson; sister, Marie Glick; one brother and one sister in infancy; and two daughters-in-law, Ellen Burkhalter and Carolyn Burkhalter.

Funeral Services will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 18, at Grace Lutheran Church, Prairie du Chien, with a two hour visitation from 9 to 11 a.m. at the church on Monday. Pastor Dan Naumann as the Officiant.Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Prairie du Chien.

Thornburg-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Prairie du Chien, is helping the family with the arrangements.
