Ricky Lee “Rick” Lenth, 57, of Monona, Iowa, died Monday, July 11, 2016, at Palmer Lutheran Hospital, West Union, Iowa. Rick was born to Virgil and Caroline (Ambrose) Lenth on December 1, 1958, in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin. He was baptized January 11, 1959, and confirmed October 27, 1974, at Norway Lutheran Church, St. Olaf, Iowa. Rick graduated from Central High School in Elkader, Iowa in 1977 and earned his associates degree at NICC in Calmar, Iowa. Rick was united in marriage with Beth Burkey on August 20, 1983, at Zion Lutheran Church, Oelwein, Iowa. To this union three children were born, Gregory, Alexander and Aimee. They later divorced.
Rick joined the United States Army in 1977 and proudly served until he was honorably discharged in 1980. He was a carpenter and worked at Swiss Valley in Luana, Iowa on the production line. Rick enjoyed attending his children’s concerts, his lap cats, building models, coin collecting and playing chess. Rick loved spending time with his children and family and will be missed by many.
Rick is survived by his three children, Gregory Lee Lenth of Ankeny, Iowa; Alexander John Lenth (Hannah Lachnit) of Anamosa, Iowa; and Aimee Janette Lenth (Dan Hanson) of Minneapolis, Minnesota; parents, Virgil and Caroline Lenth of St. Olaf, Iowa; two siblings, Randy (Lisa) Lenth of St. Olaf, Iowa; and Ronny (Angie) Lenth of Hiawatha, Iowa; niece, Courtney Lenth of Anchorage, Alaska; and nephew, Zachary (Renee) Lenth of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Rick was preceded in death by his paternal and maternal grandparents.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 14, 2016, at Norway Lutheran Church, St. Olaf, Iowa with a two-hour visitation from 9-11 am before services at the church. Burial with military rites followed at Norway Lutheran Cemetery, St. Olaf, Iowa.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the American Lung Association and the Monona Butterfly Garden.
