Kenneth I. Johnson, 82, of Prairie du Chien passed away Tuesday, July 26, at the Crossing Rivers Hospital. 

He was born June 26, 1934 in Coon Valley, the son of Laurence and Julia (Midtlien) Johnson. He attended Linrud Elementary School and graduated from Westby High School in 1952. Kenneth later graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a degree in Agriculture Education. He married Ruth Ann Walker on Oct. 14, 1956 at the Wyoming Valley Methodist Church near Spring Green. Kenneth devoted his career to youth and families as a 4H and Youth Agent in Waushara County in Wautoma, for 13 years and later in Crawford County at Prairie du Chien for 20 years. 

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Ruth Ann Johnson of Prairie du Chien; his daughters, Jane Baker of Prairie du Chien, Paula (Jeff) Kroes of Onalaska; Fern (Rich) Hosfeld of Stoughton, and Betty (Bryan) Laskowski of Eau Claire; his grandchildren, Angela, Luke (Nikki), Andy, Brent, Arich, Brenna (Garrett) and Kiersten, great grandchildren Garret, Aylah and Brock; his brothers, Lester (Phyllis), Monroe (Beverly) and David (Karen); brother-in-law John Haar and sister-in-law Alice Johnson; an aunt Marion Johnson; many nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister Judy Haar; a brother Arnold and a granddaughter Theresa.

A memorial service will be Monday, August 1, at 11 a.m. at the United Methodist Church, Pastor Barb Cook officiating with inurnment in the Evergreen Cemetery both in Prairie du Chien. Friends may call at the church on Sunday, July 31, from 5 to 7 p.m. and Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of services. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the United Methodist Church, the University of Wisconsin 4H Foundation or the charity of your choice. The Garrity Funeral Home of Prairie du Chien is assisting the family.
