Iva Dean Wilker, 85, of Elkader, died Wednesday, July 27, 2016, at the Elkader Care Center.  

Iva Dean Cora Louise (Hoth) Wilker was born on October 4, 1930, in Elkader, to Willis and Emma (Bahls) Hoth. She was baptized February 22, 1931, at Lutheran Lion’s Church in Clayton Center, and was confirmed at Peace United Church of Christ in Elkader. She attended country school through the eighth grade. Iva Dean graduated from Paris Academy of Beauty, in Cedar Rapids.

She was united in marriage to Burnell Wilker on January 31, 1955, at Peace United Church of Christ in Elkader.

She was owner and operator of Deanne’s Beauty Shop in Elkader for over 50 years. Iva Dean was a member of Peace United Church of Christ in Elkader, where she was a member of the Deborah Circle. She was also a member of Central Community Hospital Auxiliary and the American Legion Auxiliary.

Iva Dean loved her family and always loved to cook up a giant meal for the whole family. Cooking and baking for the family is how she showed her love.  She loved to work in her beauty shop and was always busy doing something around the house.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include her husband, Burnell of Elkader, her children, Dan (Marcy) Wilker of Dubuque, Brian (Dixie) Wilker of Elkader, Mark (Linda) Wilker of Urbandale; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and her brother, Leon (Joyce) Hoth of St. Olaf.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, July 29, at at Peace United Church of Christ in Elkader, with Rev. Clark Kilgard as the officiant. Casket bearers were Tyler Wilker, Brent Wilker, Candace Fette, Adam Fette, Lindsey Terhaar, Jason Terhaar, Emma Wilker, and Sophi Wilker. Honorary Bearers were Caden Fette, Avery Fette, and Adalyn Fette. Interment followed at East Side Cemetery in Elkader.

Visitation was held two hours before the service at the church on Friday.
