Clayton County's annual salute to its rural heritage, the 162nd annual Clayton County Fair, opened Tuesday for a week-long run of family-focused events ranging from  livestock shows, to free midway rides, live entertainment, 4-H judging, great fair food and more.

Daily admission includes free parking and free grandstand entertainment. Parents will be pleased to learn that children under 12 are admitted free, and all carnival rides are free.

Musical entertainment highlights include the Bellamy Brothers Thursday evening and Terri Clark on Friday evening.

The day-by-day schedule includes the following highlights:

Wednesday, Aug. 3: The horse show will begin at 9 a.m. A barbecue meal will be served from 5-7:30 p.m. The flag-raising ceremony takes place at 6:30 p.m., followed by the Fair Queen pageant. At 7 p.m. 4-H'ers will present a style show and "Share the Fun" show.
