Marguerite Sylvia Berns, 99, of Guttenberg, died Friday, Sept. 9, 2016, at the Guttenberg Municipal Hospital.

Funeral services were Monday, Sept. 12, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Guttenberg, conducted by Rev. Marvin Bries. Visitation was before services at the church.

Interment was at St. Mary's Cemetery, Guttenberg.

Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home, Guttenberg, was in charge of arrangements.

Marguerite was born in McGregor on Aug. 31, 1917, the daughter of Fred and Nellie (Demo) Schindhelm.

Marguerite graduated from the McGregor High School and later received her teaching degree from Fayette. In September of 1939, Marguerite was united in marriage with James Franklin Berns in Garber. Together they tilled their land and raised four children. Marguerite had a passion for quilting and spending time with friends and family. 

Those left to cherish her memory are her four children, Diane (Lee) Dickson, Richard Berns, Suzanne Wand and Patricia (Bill) Paulsen; grandchildren, Allan, Michele, Rachel, Lee, Renae, Vicki, Traci; great-grandchildren, Eleanor, Daisy, Audrey, Sasha, Anastasia, Farl, Caleb, Cali, Jaxon, Cam, Jordin, Bryson, Lyrik, Ethan and great-great-grandchildren, Sophia and Brayden.

Marguerite was preceded in death by her parents; husband; grandson, Richard Dickson and brother, Robert Schindhelm.
