Loraine Possehl, 90, of Elkader, died Sunday, October 9, 2016, at the Elkader Care Center. She was born January 28, 1926, to Gerhardt and Mabel (Harnack) Renken in rural Postville.

Loraine was united in marriage to Henry Louis “Red” Possehl on June 19, 1944, in Elkader. Two sons were born to this union.

She enjoyed auctions, antiques, crossword puzzles, card playing and bingo. Loraine was a bookkeeper for Leonard Auction Company for a number of years; then worked as a cook at Central Community School before retiring.

Survivors include her sons, Marlin Possehl of Minneapolis, MN, and Mark (Shirley) Possehl of Grundy Center, IA; two grandchildren, Matthew (Sharon) Possehl of Bentonville, AR and Kendra (Kevin) Nikolish of Brooklyn, IA; five great-grandchildren, Lucas, Declan, Calliope Possehl, Haley and Abby Pierson; one brother, Charles Renken of Marshalltown.

Loraine was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Red, on June 9, 2010, and one brother, Merle Renken.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, October 13, 2016, at Peace United Church of Christ in Elkader, with Rev. Jon Haack officiating. Inurnment followed at East Side Cemetery, Elkader. There was a visitation from 10 a.m. until service time at the church on Thursday.
