Willard W. Morarend, 91, recently residing at Guttenberg Care Center, formerly of Dubuque, passed away Saturday, Nov. 19, 2016. 

Friends may greet the family from 4-7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 25, at Hoffmann Schneider Funeral Home, Dubuque. 

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 26, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Guttenberg, where friends may greet the family from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service.

Burial will be in the Guttenberg Cemetery with military honors. 

Willard was born June 8, 1925, in Osterdock, the son of Elmer and Elizabeth (Hinrichs) Morarend. He served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. He was a member of the American Legion Post #6. 

Willard married Lois Peake on Jan. 13, 1947, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Guttenberg. She preceded him in death on Oct. 29, 2006. 

Willard farmed with his wife for many years, and was also employed at the Dubuque Packing Company and American Trust and Savings Bank. 

Willie was a renowned elevator operator, sweet corn grower, euchre player, and man about town.

Willard is survived by five children, Joyce (Terry) Williams of Monument, Colo., Butch (Cindy) Morarend of St. Louis, Mo., Judell (Rick) Anderson of Plymouth, Minn., Jacqueline (David) Meyer of Cedar Falls, and Julie (Dan) Schnuelle of Fox Lake, Ill.; 11 grandchildren, Troy, Todd (Allie), Brian, Bret (Julie), Matt (Jenny), Dave, Leah, Brian (Michelle), Kyle (Brittany), Patrick, and T.J.; 10 great-grandchildren, Aubrey, Courtney, Ella, Rilan, Odin, Courtney (Drew), Kailyn (David), Avery, Jack, and Grace; two great-great-grandchildren, Emmalyn and Aubriana; his niece, Sarah (Brian) May; and two nephews, Darren Marting and Duane (Cindy) Pins. 

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; his twin brother, Wilbert; and two sisters, Wilma Pins and Eunice Marting. 

Memorials may be made to Cedar Valley Hospice. 

The family would like to thank the staff at Guttenberg Care Center; Guttenberg Municipal Hospital; NorthCrest Specialty Care; and Cedar Valley Hospice. Their care was a comfort to Willard and was greatly appreciated.
