Change of venue motion filed for murder suspect

A motion for a change of venue has been filed in Crawford County Circuit Court for a 49-year-old Hampton, Ga., man charged in the death of a 53-year-old Bridgeport Township woman.

The motion was filed Nov. 28, on behalf of Jimmy McDaniel, who has been charged with first-degree reckless homicide in the death of his girlfriend Linda Kline.

According to the criminal complaint and testimony at a preliminary hearing, McDaniel is accused of strangling Kline with his hands and causing blunt force trauma to her head and then staging her death as a suicide by hanging on Oct. 5, in the backyard of the home she lived in on Velvet Lane in Bridgeport Township.

A hearing on the change of venue motion is scheduled for Dec. 8, at 1:30 p.m. If a change of venue is granted, the case would be tried in another jurisdiction and a jury would be selected from the chosen jurisdiction.

At his arraignment on Nov. 21, McDaniel stood mute and a not guilty plea was entered on his behalf. He faces a maximum penalty of 60 years in prison if convicted.

McDaniel is being held in the Crawford County Jail on a $500,000 cash bond.
