Eilene Dean, 92, of Fort Dodge, passed away Monday, Dec. 12, 2016, at the Simpson Health Center, Friendship Haven in Fort Dodge.

Visitation was Wednesday, Dec. 14, at the Gunderson Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Fort Dodge.

Funeral services were Thursday, Dec. 15, at the Gunderson Funeral Chapel, conducted by Rev. Bethany Willers.

Burial was in North Lawn Cemetery.  

Opal Eilene Minger, the daughter of Albert and Mercy Blanche (Penhollow) Minger, was born Aug. 29, 1924, in Roblin, Manitoba, Canada. She graduated in 1942 from Guttenberg High School in Guttenberg and moved to Des Moines and graduated from Capital City Commercial College. On Nov. 25, 1950, Eilene was united in marriage to Robert Dean in Kansas City, Mo. After their marriage the couple lived in Kansas City, Huntsville, Ala. and Decatur, Ala. before moving to Fort Dodge in 1956. Eilene taught school in Clayton County for two years before she worked as a ticket agent for Mid Continent Airline for seven years. Eilene worked as school secretary for Hillcrest Elementary School for 21 years before retiring in 1989. She loved genealogy and spending time with her children and grandchildren. After her husband’s death, on May 27, 2000, Eilene continued to make Fort Dodge her home before moving in to Friendship Haven in October of 2013.

She is survived by her four children, Douglas (Dawn) Dean of Lake City, Barbara Dean of Fort Dodge, Dennis (Tami) Dean of Austin, Minn., and Elizabeth Ann Dean of Fort Dodge; six grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Peggy Minger; and several nieces and nephews.

Opal is preceded in death by her husband, her parents; brother, Alton "Jackie" Minger; her sisters, Maymie Minger and Vera Patrick and her brother-in-law, Gene Patrick.

Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
