Elizabeth Brownlee

A 26-year-old Boscobel woman was killed last Friday afternoon after she apparently jumped from a moving pickup truck on County N south of Avoca.

The mishap occurred at around 12:20 p.m., on Friday, Jan. 27, according to the Iowa County Sheriff’s Department. The Iowa County 911 Dispatch Center received a call from the driver of a motor vehicle that his front seat passenger had exited the vehicle while it was traveling on County N in the town of Clyde.

Wesston Brownlee, 33, of Boscobel, stated he was northbound on County N in a 2012 Ford pickup truck when his wife, Elizabeth Brownlee, 26, Boscobel, opened the door and exited the truck, while it was still moving.

Elizabeth Brownlee was later pronounced dead at Upland Hills Health in Dodgeville as a result of her injuries.

The couple had been involved in a verbal argument prior to Elizabeth’s decision to jump from the moving vehicle, according to Wesston Brownlee. There is no indication that a physical altercation took place between the two individuals, the sheriff’s department reported.

The Brownlees’ 15-month-old child was secured in a child safety seat in the rear of the vehicle. The child and Wesston were not injured in the accident, which remains under investigation, according to the sheriff’s department.

Elizabeth Brownlee, the former Elizabeth Dennis, was the 2008 Crawford County Fairest of the Fair. She was most recently acting as the Crawford county Fair Ambassador adviser and she was the superintendent of the fair’s rabbits department. She was also a 4-H project leader.

Elizabeth Brownlee’s friends from the fair and 4-H have scheduled a “Tribute to Elizabeth” for Wednesday, Aug. 23, at the Crawford County Fair.
