Three pitchers team up as Seneca shuts out River Ridge
Seneca defeated River Ridge 10-0 on Tuesday as three pitchers combined to throw a shutout. Nick Payne struck out Connor Mumm to finish off the game.
Seneca grabbed an early lead. Seneca scored on a single by Nick Payne, a double by Jared Payne, and a double by Andrew Wall in the first inning.
Seneca scored four runs in the second inning. Seneca’s big inning was driven by a triple by Gavin Greene and a single by Payne.
One bright spot for River Ridge was a single by Brett Moravits in the first inning.
Greene earned the win for Seneca. He tossed two innings, giving up zero runs, one hit, striking out four, and walking zero. Two relievers helped Seneca close out the victory. Noah Allan threw two innings.
Ben Ertz took the loss for River Ridge. He pitched one inning, giving up four runs, four hits, and striking out two.
Seneca had 10 hits in the game. Allan and Payne each collected two hits to lead Seneca.
Moravits led River Ridge with one hit in two at bats.
