Gary Lee White, 69, of Garnavillo, IA, died Wednesday, March 15, 2017, at the Great River Care Center in McGregor, IA. He was born on September 21, 1947, in Elkport IA, the son of Everett and Bertha White. 

Gary received his education from the Guttenberg School System and entered the United States Army on November 10, 1965 and served in Army infantry. Gary earned several decorations including the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Marksman and the Merit Unit Commendation. He received his honorable discharge on November 7, 1969. After returning home, Gary worked for many years in the logging industry for several local companies. 

Gary was a long-time member of the Clay-Gar American Legion Post 723. He enjoyed mushroom hunting, gardening, fishing and trapping. 

Those left to cherish Gary’s memory are Janice Krugger; children and stepchildren, Travis, Kimberley, Chad, Jason, Paul (Danielle) White, Loretta Weipert, Lynda Schaefer and Larry Krugger; numerous grandchildren; four siblings, Kenny (Julie) White, Michael White, Norma Barnhart, Sandra (Henry) Fassbinder IV and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. 

Gary was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Lee Allen, Todd and Keith White; and sisters, Linda Felder and  Caroline Willie.

Arrangements are being handled by Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home, Garnavillo, IA where the family received friends from 4 to 8 p.m., Friday, March 17, 2017 and one hour before service at church.  Funeral service was at St. Peter Lutheran Church at 10 a.m., Saturday, March 18, 2017. The Rev. Hillary Burns-Kite officiated. Interment was at Garnavillo Community Cemetery.
