play in Soldiers Grove
On Thursday, June 29, the Prairie du Chien American Legion Grasshoppers played a doubleheader against the La Crosse Central team. The Hoppers lost the first game and won the second.
On Friday, June 30, the team hosted their annual Veterans Fish Fry and Appreciation Night.
A team didn’t show up on Friday, so the Varsity Grasshoppers scrimmaged the Prairie du Chien Junior Varsity American Legion Grasshoppers.
Capping the night off, the varsity played a team of former Prairie du Chien Legion baseball players.
“We ended up winning both of those games,” said Varsity Coach Joseph Renner.
On July 3, the varsity traveled to Soldiers Grove for Soldiers Grove’s salute to veterans showcase games.
The Hoppers played Westby and won 8-4. Gavin Gillitzer was the winning pitcher, throwing a complete game. Hunter Sheckler was Prairie du Chien’s leading hitter for the night.
After the game, there was a re-draw for the regional pairings. Prairie du Chien will now face Genoa-DeSoto-Stoddard in the first round of playoffs on July 19 at 3 p.m. in Coon Valley.
Looking forward, the team will play Holmen Thursday night at home and then are away for the weekend, playing in the Onalaska Legion Tournament, which will be a great warm up before playoffs roll around.
