Jan Miller, a.k.a. “Big Bopper,” “Dumplin,” “Lenny,” died July 17, 2017. He was born in Colesburg on April 2, 1940, to Harold and Jeanne Miller. His parents-in-law were George and Clara Wertz. Jan is survived and forever loved by his wife of 53 years, Carolyn and sons, Brent and daughter-in-law, Nicole; Douglas and daughter-in-law, Laura; and Christopher and daughter-in-law, Beth; grandchildren, Camry, Adilynn, Callie, McKenna, and Caris who adored their “Grampy” as much as he adored them; siblings, Karen, Richard and sister-in-law, Judy, David and sister-in-law, Stephanie, Carol and brother-in-law, Mike, and Trudy and brother-in-law, Jay, will deeply miss their brother who is now resting peacefully with his siblings Kent, Douglas, and Steven. Equally saddened by his passing are Jan’s siblings-in-law, Dennis, Beverly, and Ed as well as a special group of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Jan was unwavering in his devotion to family, friends, and community as characterized by his countless hours coaching his boys; resurrecting cars, maintaining airplanes, and building structures; treasuring his time and reunions at the Miller farm; antiquing and auctioning with Carolyn while finding the ultimate bargain; playing with his much loved dog, Noodles; gazebo time while gazing into Trailwood Park; and imparting unconventional yet clever “Janisms” along with the knee-slapping, corny jokes. To know Jan was to know one would feel at ease and reassured in his presence while having a cold beer which he’d gladly offer. Jan possessed curiosity and adventure as he had the privilege to see the world with stops in Asia and Europe, as well as venturing to visit family in numerous places throughout the United States. Likewise, his service to his country, as a veteran of the United States Air Force, is respected and will always be remembered. Without question Jan has left a legacy as remarkable as any man had or will leave. We love and honor you. We are forever grateful for you.
