Luana Daze, held Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 26 and 27, will again feature the Tough Scrambler obstacle course race. The event, which promises to be even muddier this year, will take participants on a 2.5-mile trek through over 10 obstacles. (NIT file photo)

Head to Luana this Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 26 and 27, for the community’s annual Luana Daze celebration.

This year’s event features some popular, long-time activities along with several new ones.

Luana Daze will kick off bright and early Saturday morning, with the Luana Community Club’s pancake and sausage breakfast, beginning at 7:30 a.m. and running until 10 a.m.

Todd Olson, owner of the Luana Tap, will also offer his famous Bloody Marys and mimosas starting at 7:30 a.m.

Back for the second year is the Tough Scrambler obstacle course race. The race will begin at 8 a.m. (registration begins at 7:15 a.m.), in front of the Luana Tap, taking participants on a 2.5-mile trek through over 10 obstacles. Organizers promise an even muddier adventure this year. All proceeds from the Tough Scrambler will go to the Luana Community Club for community improvement projects.

One of the new Luana Daze activities—a co-ed softball tournament—will kick off at 10 a.m., at Old School Rec. The event, which is a fundraiser for Old School Rec, will offer cash prizes to the top three teams. Concessions will be available.

Also starting at 10 a.m. will be the annual Luana Tractor Ride, starting at Luther Keehner’s shop.

At 11 a.m., registration will begin for the popular firemen waterball fights. The men’s fight will commence at noon, followed by the women’s and kid’s contests, respectively.

The second annual car show, sponsored by Sautter’s Auto Sales and Service, will also start at noon. The vehicles will be on display until 2 p.m.

The bean bag tournaments will get underway at 1 p.m., while the kid’s pedal pull will entertain the Luana Daze crowd at 4 p.m.

New this year, the firemen will have a ribeye sandwich supper from 5 to 9 p.m.

At 9 p.m., Uncle Sam’s Band will provide live music at the Luana Tap’s 11th annual street dance. The event will last until 1 a.m. Sunday.

Fun continues Sunday, Aug. 27, with the tractor pull. Registration begins at 11 a.m., while the pull starts at noon.

On both days, the Luana firemen will offer brats and chips from 11 a.m to 4 p.m. Kids can also enjoy activities each day from noon to 4 p.m. The National Honor Society will man the shake machine, offering Luana Daze attendees a sweet, cool treat.
