Blue-Golds pull 

away from Trojans

Seneca/Wauzeka-Steuben pulled away in the second half to defeat visiting North Crawford 49-26 in Ridge and Valley football action Friday night in Seneca.

The Trojans got on the board first on a 54-yard run to go up 6-0 in the first quarter.

Noah Allan returned the ensuing kickoff 72 yards for a touchdown to tie the game at 6-6.

In the second period, Carter Lomas caught a pass from Jared Payne and raced into the endzone for a 61-yard score to give the Blue-Golds a 12-6 advantage.

A few moments later, North Crawford scored on a 61-yard pass of their own and the 2-point conversion was good as the Trojans took a 14-12 lead.

North Crawford scored again on a 53-yard run to increase the margin to 20-12.

Payne ran it in from 3 yards out as SWS pulled to within 20-18 at the half.

Payne went on a 37-yard TD run in the third quarter and the 2-point play was good as SWS took a 26-20 lead.

Isaac Byrne scored on a 9-yard run as the Blue-Golds upped their advantage to 32-20.

Braden Folbrecht had a 5-yard TD run to increase the margin to 38-20 after three quarters.

Carter Lomas kicked a 29-yard field goal as SWS went up 41-20 in the fourth period.

The Trojans scored on a 4-yard run to get to within 41-26.

Nate Benish ran it in from 7 yards out and the 2-point conversion was good to make the final score 49-26.

SWS rushed 47 times for 307 yards, and completed 4 of 13 passes for 131 yards. North Crawford had 236 yards rushing and 168 passing.

Isaac Byrne rushed 14 times for 106 yards and a TD for SWS. Payne had 6 carries for 86 yards and 2 TDs. Payne connected on 4 of 13 passes for 131 yards and a touchdown. Lomas caught 2 passes for 81 yards and a TD. Isaiah Teynor caught 2 passes for 50 yards.

“This game was a back and forth battle in the first half,” said SWS Coach Justin Goodrich. “We were able to dominate the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball in the second half and came away with a great victory. I’m extremely proud of the way our players performed in the second half by continuing to make big plays.”
