Learn more about Marquette’s vast railroad history at the 15th annual Railroad Days celebration on Saturday, Sept. 16, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the Depot Museum and Information Center.

The day, as described by Depot employee and Marquette resident Deidre Vick-Froehlich, tells “the history of us.”

Little barrel rides for the kids, as well as caricature drawings by local artist John Mundt, will kick off the day at 10 a.m., and continue into the afternoon.

At 11 a.m., find out if the train will get robbed, as the Hole in the Sock Gang 1880s street theater group performs.

Enjoy a telegraphy demonstration by long-time railroad employee Jim Teaser at 1 p.m. Stories and remembrances from other former railroad employees will also begin at that time, continuing until 2 p.m.

At 2 p.m., a steam locomotive movie will be presented.

Throughout the day, enjoy tours of the Depot Museum, which houses an extensive collection of railroad history, including artifacts from the Milwaukee Road, Sooline Railroad, I & M Rail Link and Iowa, Chicago and Eastern Railroad. Marquette’s history is also prominently featured.

A raffle drawing will also be held later in the day, and food will be provided by the Marquette Bar and Cafe and Marquette American Legion Post 305.
