A local man led police officers on a high speed chase through the streets of Prairie du Chien Tuesday, Sept. 12, but ended up arrested on methamphetamine-related charges, according to the Crawford County Sheriff’s Department.

During the early morning Tuesday, the sheriff’s department K-9 unit, along with a city of Prairie du Chien officer, were patrolling Wells Street when they observed a 2001 Volkswagen Passat, operated by Christian Weber, 25, of Prairie du Chien. Upon seeing the squad car, Weber made multiple abrupt turns, began accelerating and drove through the stop sign at Ninth and Brunson Streets. The Crawford County deputy activated his emergency lights and siren, though Weber accelerated and continued making abrupt turns, according to the sheriff’s department. Weber continued at a high rate of speed, eastbound on Campion Street, then up Bluff View Drive.

Reaching a dead end, Weber drove through a yard causing damage and headed down to Bluff View Terrace. He eventually became stuck in the ditch line and was taken into custody without further incident.

Weber exhibited extreme signs of drug impairment and told the officers he had ingested methamphetamine. A search of the vehicle yielded numerous baggies of meth individually packaged for distribution. Also, the authorities discovered Weber was on active probation through the state of Wisconsin, stemming from a meth distribution case.

Weber was transported to the Crawford County jail and charged with possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, possession of methamphetamine paraphernalia, operating while under the influence of a restricted controlled substance-third offense and felony eluding.
