Cross country girls 12th

at state, finish amazing season

The Prairie du Chien girls cross country team had the honor of competing in the State Cross Country Championships in Wisconsin Rapids on Saturday for the first time in 39 years.

The temperature was just above freezing with a strong wind at race time – way different than the 70 degree temperature at the sectional qualifying meet a week earlier.

The girls finished the season with a 12th-place finish, beating fellow sectional qualifier, McFarland.

Sophomore Karly Jaynes ran well to finish first for the team with a time of 20:40.  Amber Huser was really affected by the cold and nearly fainted during the race, but still managed to finish with a time of 20:55. Meg Katzung had a strong race to finish third for the team, followed by Greta and Ella Hein. Jadyn Jenks and Faith Dillman were the sixth and seventh runners, respectively.

“I could not be prouder of the girls. It was incredible to complete with the best of the best from all over the state,” said Coach Kathleen Hein. “It was also wonderful to see the support from the community.  We had so many fans make the long drive and to stand in the freezing cold weather.  Competing in the state meet was an amazing way to end an amazing season – definitely a dream come true.”
