SWS has Good Year
Blue-Golds end a fine season
Second-seeded Potosi-Cassville defeated visiting and third-seeded Seneca/Wauzeka-Steuben 56-18 in a Division 7 playoff football game Friday night.
The Blue-Golds finished a fine season with a 9-2 overall record and a 6-0 mark in the Ridge and Valley Conference.
“Potosi/Cassville is a very well balanced team with some very good athletes. Unfortunately, we made too many mistakes and Potosi/Cassville was able to capitalize and put points on the board,” said SWS Coach Justin Goodrich. “I would like to thank everyone for supporting us all year. A big thank you goes out to our seniors for all their hard work and dedication the last four years. This game will not define the 2017 SWS football team. We had a great year and I’m very proud of our players and coaches. After winning no games our first year, it’s a huge accomplishment to win conference and win a Level 1 playoff game in just our third year as a co-op team.”
Potosi-Cassville scored 29 points in the first period and 27 in the second to grab a 56-6 lead at halftime.
Nate Benish scored on an 82-yard kickoff return in the second quarter for the Blue-Golds’ lone score of the first half.
Austin Hagensick had a 7-yard touchdown run in the third quarter to make the score 56-12.
Benish finished the scoring for the night with a 27-yard TD run in the fourth quarter.
Noah Allan rushed 7 times for 45 yards for SWS. Benish had 1 carry for 27 yards and a TD. Jared Payne completed 2 of 6 passes for 12 yards. Isaac Byrne caught 1 pass for 10 yards.
