Renee Diane Burns, 54, of Strawberry Point, was called home to Heaven on Thursday, Oct. 26, 2017, from the Strawberry Point Lutheran Home after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.

Visitation was Sunday, Oct. 29, at Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home, Guttenberg and one hour before services at the church.

Funeral services were Monday, Oct. 30, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Guttenberg, conducted by Rev. Marvin Bries.

Interment was at St. Mary's Cemetery, Guttenberg.

Renee was born on May 11, 1963, in Guttenberg, the daughter of Frank and Marjorie Dahlstrom.

Renee received her education in Guttenberg where she graduated with the class of 1981. She was united in marriage to Kenneth Burns Jr. on June 11, 1983; two children were born to this union, and the marriage later ended. She attended the University of Northern Iowa where she received her Bachelor’s Degree in education and later obtained her Master’s Degree in early childhood special education. Renee was a teacher for many years, as well as a consultant for Grantwood AEA, working with children with special needs. She was passionate about her church and her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She loved her family and being “Grandma Na,” and had a special place in her heart for all children. She loved dancing, camping, and creating art, especially beautiful stained glass projects. Her generous heart touched the lives of so many.

Renee will be forever loved and cherished by her daughter, Randi Burns (Beau Timmerman), Strawberry Point; son, Brian (Cassie) Burns, Strawberry Point; four grandchildren, Jagger and Tavien Timmerman, Katie and Andrew Burns; mother, Marjorie Elsinger; seven siblings, Gina Dahlstrom-Osburn and Jody Dahlstrom both of Guttenberg, Leslie Schmelzer (John McAndrew), Delmar, Lonnie Dahlstrom, Dubuque, Cheryl (Ken) Steadman, Norfolk, Va., Angela (Dave) Spickerman, Maquoketa, Steve Elsinger, Guttenberg, and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, Frank Dahlstrom and step-father, Andrew Elsinger Jr.; grandparents, Melvin and Ruth Dahlstrom, Adolf and Laura Blaser and Irene and Andrew Elsinger Sr.
