Wayne Marvin Lau, 67, of Guttenberg, gained his wings Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2017, with his loving family by his side, at Mercy Medical Center in Dubuque.

Visitation was Friday, Nov. 10, at Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home, Guttenberg

Memorial services were Saturday, Nov. 11, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Guttenberg.

Interment was at Guttenberg City Cemetery.

Wayne was born July 11, 1950, to Merrill and Adele (Radamacker) Lau. He graduated from Guttenberg High School in 1968 and later joined the U.S. Army and served his country proudly in the Vietnam War with the 82nd and the 173rd Airborne Division Charlie Company 4th Battalion. After his honorable discharge, Wayne attended school for architectural drawing and jewelry repair.

Wayne was united in marriage to Carol Hogan on May 6, 1989. They were later blessed with their daughter Amber. His biggest passions in life was his wife, daughter and grandchildren. He enjoyed time out on the Mississippi River fishing, the Iowa Hawkeyes, and the Chicago Cubs. He enjoyed hunting just about any type of wildlife out there. Wayne also taught the hunter safety course for many years. Wayne spent 46 years in a wheel chair and never complained a day of his life; he always considered it a blessing.

He is survived by his wife, Carol Lau; daughter, Amber (Rusty) Meyer of Dyersville; siblings, Sandie (Lonnie) Beisker of McGregor, Jeff (Jean) Lau of Guttenberg, Dawn (Dan) Coyle of Delhi, Merrill (Tanya) Hyde of Florida; five grandchildren, Cade, Ethyn, Brynn, Avery and Adeline Meyer; mother-in-law, Helen Hogan; in-laws, Roger and Mary Hogan of Luxemburg, Jerry and Kathy Hogan of Poynette, Wis., Ronnie and Sherrie Hogan of Dyersville, Ronnie and Marilyn Schultz of Holy Cross, Dan and Deb Hogan of Guttenberg, Mike Hogan of Holy Cross and many nieces and nephews.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Steve Lau; father-in-law, Vince Hogan.

Special thanks to Dr. Schulteis, Dr. Engelman, “Wayne’s Chemo Nurses, his Angels,” to all the doctors and nurses in Mercy Hospital in ICU and third floor. You are our extended family now. All of the loving care and compassion will never be forgotten.
