Prairie du Chien 

wins conference opener

On Thursday, Dec. 14, the Prairie du Chien wrestling team hosted Belmont/Platteville in the conference opener for both squads. It was also Parents’ Night for the wrestlers and cheerleaders. 

Prior to the start of the varsity action, Clayton DuCharme picked up his first career victory in the JV 145# match. 

Varsity started at 152#, and the Blackhawks sent Traeton Saint to the circle. Saint would take care of business quickly, with a single leg for a takedown followed by a cradle for the fall. 

At 160#, Tyler Smock would receive a forfeit. 

At 170#, Nick Rogge would win by technical fall 20-3. 

In the match, Rogge would record five takedowns and receive near fall points three times. 

At 182#, Zach Swiggum lost by fall in the third period. 

There was a double forfeit at 195#. 

Colten Wall received a forfeit at 220#. 

At 285#, Jerrod Osterkamp would go scoreless in period one. In period two, Jerrod would deliver the boom, and get the fall. 

At 106#, Matt Rogge wrestled a ranked wrestler. Rogge would lead after one 2-0 with a takedown. In period two, Rogge would hit a switch, and his opponent would return the favor. Period three went scoreless and Matt picked up a well earned 4-2 victory. 

Jackson DeBruin would receive a forfeit at 113# as would Chase Fisher at 120#. 

At 126#, Keenan Holley would wrestle a returning state placewinner. Holley wrestled tough, and didn’t give up any bonus points in an 8-2 loss. 

Bradyn Saint received a forfeit at 132#. 

Reid Koenig received a forfeit at 138#. 

At 145#, Blake Garcia would take his opponent down and get a first period pin with a nasty double arm bar. 

Final score: PdC 62, Belmont/Platteville 9. The fourth-ranked Blackhawks will next be in action at the annual BiState Classic in La Crosse on Friday, Dec. 29 and Saturday, Dec. 30.
