Rotary pledges $10,000 to Wave of the Future

The Guttenberg Rotary Club has announced a multi-year, $10,000 pledge to the Wave of the Future campaign for a new swimming pool. Funds will be distributed from the annual payout of the club’s endowment fund, The Rod and Mary Jo Tangeman Family Foundation for Guttenberg Rotary, and fundraisers like an upcoming trivia event.
The Rotary Club will host a trivia night on Friday, Jan. 26, at the Guttenberg Golf Club. Proceeds from the event are earmarked for the Wave of the Future campaign for Guttenberg’s new swimming pool. The battle of brains will begin at 6:30 p.m., with doors to open at 5 p.m. and a buffet starting at 6 p.m. A cash bar will be open until midnight.
Up to 18 teams of four to six players will face off over five 10-question rounds, written and led by renowned quizmaster Steve Dikkers. A bonus question at the end of each round will up the ante – and the total dollar amount raised for the Wave of the Future – as teams can ‘purchase’ an extra question and potentially an extra point on their final score.
“We have 12 teams signed up so far, so we’re looking for six more teams,” said Rotary President John Finch. He and the rest of the Rotary Club have been engaged in planning for the event and will be helping out during the evening with setup, clean up, and waiting tables. “I’d like to make this an annual event, using the funds to help Rotary do good things in the community,” said Finch.
The competition will be fierce as prizes up for grabs include a set of matching shirts for the winning team, various door prizes, and ultimately, bragging rights. Brain fuel is being catered by the Guttenberg Golf Club and includes tossed salad, fried chicken, pork loin, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole and cheesecake, on an all-you-can-eat buffet line.
The Guttenberg Rotary Club was established on June 13, 1928. The club has maintained an active, productive presence in the community, contributing both locally and internationally, for nearly nine decades. The 18 members of the Guttenberg Rotary Club join professional leaders from all backgrounds who make up Rotary International, uniting worldwide to provide humanitarian service, help build goodwill and promote peace. Rotary International includes 32,000 clubs with 1.2 million members in over 200 countries.
