Shirley J. Sheckler, 80, of Prairie du Chien, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 24, at the Mayo Health System in La Crosse, after a brief illness. 

 

She was born July 26, 1937 in Woodman, the daughter of Benjamin and Katherine (Cullen) Horkheimer. She married Robert Sheckler on Dec. 3, 1955, in Prairie du Chien. She and her husband owned and operated S&S Shell Company and Shirley later worked at 3M Company in Prairie du Chien. Robert preceded her in death on Aug. 20, 2000. Shirley enjoyed cooking; a favorite was her potato dumplings. 

 

She is survived by her children, Robert (Bonnie) Sheckler, of Prairie du Chien, Randy (Paula) Sheckler, of Fennimore, Bryan (Monica) Sheckler, of Englewood, Fla., Scott (Jill) Sheckler and Shirley (Scott) Welsch, both of Prairie du Chien; her sister Bonnie (Bill) Boggert, of Schenectady, N.Y.; 14 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. 

 

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and a sister Blanche Kirk.

 

Funeral services will be Saturday, Feb. 3, at 11 a.m., at the Salem United Methodist Church in Eastman, Rev. Lynn Schreck officiating, with burial in the Evergreen Cemetery in Prairie du Chien. Friends may call at the church on Saturday, Feb. 3, from 9 a.m., until the time of services. The Garrity Funeral Home of Prairie du Chien is assisting the family.
