John “Jackie" Geuder Jr., 77, of Guttenberg, died Friday, Jan. 26, 2018, at his home surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with cancer.

Visitation was Monday, Jan. 29, at Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home, Guttenberg.

Graveside services were Tuesday, Jan. 30, at the Guttenberg City Cemetery, conducted by Rev. Shane Anderson.

Jackie was born July 25, 1940, to John and Ilo (Walke) Geuder in Clayton County. Once Jackie graduated high school he entered in to the United States Army from September of 1958 until September of 1961 serving as Infantry as well as a cook to the troops in Germany. On Aug. 14, 1962, Jackie married the love of his life, Betty Jane Borcherding, at St. John’s Church in Guttenberg. To this union three children were born, Jeff, Janet, and Brian.

Jackie worked for many years as a truck driver and as a chef at Doug’s. It was said that he had a contagious sense of humor and was always making everyone around him laugh and smile. He loved to talk and would strike up conversations with anyone that was within an earshot of him. Jackie had a love for his grandchildren; he enjoyed his convertible, Honda, going on bicycle rides, long walks and playing cards.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Betty of Guttenberg; children, Jeff (Christy) Geuder of Cedar Rapids, Janet Lovett of Dubuque, and Brian (Joannie) Geuder of Fishers, Ind.; grandchildren, Cayden, Cameron, and Brianna Lovett, Leah and Olivia Geuder, and April Brewster; great-grandchildren, Paityn and Laikyn Brewster; and sister-in-law, Jerri Geuder.

Jackie is preceded in death by his parents; brothers and sisters-in-law, Merlin (Irene) Geuder, Donnie (Jean) Geuder, Doug Geuder; and one sister, Jaleen Smock-Fassbinder.
