Nancy L. Anderson, 71, of Farmersburg, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 20, at her home following an extended illness.

She was born Aug. 26, 1946, in Wauzeka, the daughter of Murray and Virginia (Russell) Dodd. She married Gregory Anderson on Dec. 24, 1993, in Prairie du Chien. She worked at the Black Angus Supper Club and later for MPC in Prairie du Chien. Nancy was liked by all who met her and loved by those lucky enough to know her well. She was an avid reader, history buff and lover of music with an unmatchable fondness for yarn.

She raised her children to understand a few indispensable life lessons:

1. There’s strength in unity. “We all row together or the little boat sinks,” she’d often say.

2. We get what we give. You can grumble about those dishes or you can turn up the Rod Stewart and crank them out.

3. Even in the darkest times you can pull out your happy dishes, find your footing and carry on.

Passionate and full of spunk to her final days she will be missed and loved always. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, needlepoint but most of all spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband of 24 years, Greg Anderson, of Farmersburg, Iowa; her children, Julie Smethurst Cipra (Randy), of Prairie du Chien, Jennifer Smethurst Hoilien, of Garnavillo, Iowa, Tonia Flitsch Marx (Jim), of Prairie du Chien, Bobbie Flitsch Cotton (Steve), of Bettendorf, Iowa, and Brandie Morton Schuchardt (Quinton), of DeForest; a sister, Kathleen (Jerry) Majewski, of Marengo, Iowa; 12 grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother Ronald Dodd; and one grandchild.

A celebration of Nancy’s life will be held Monday, Feb. 26, at 7 p.m., at the Garrity Funeral Home Chapel with Deacon Pat Malanaphy officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 4 p.m. until the time of services. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred. A special thank you to the Crossing Rivers hospice team including Alex Berns and to Pastor Pat for all their love and care. The Garrity Funeral Home in Prairie du Chien is assisting the family with arrangements.
