Robert Edward Schuety, 52, of rural St. Olaf, passed away Tuesday, February 20, 2018, at his residence.

He was born December 4, 1965, in Elkader, to Edward Kuehl and Ardis (Peterson) Schuety. He received his education at Central Community School in Elkader and graduated from an online college. He was working to get his master’s degree in business.

He married Penny Williams and they later divorced. The couple became the parents of a son, Derek, and a daughter, Megan. Later he married Sheila Harvey and they became the parents of Dillon Schuety. Robert enlisted in the U.S. Army, served two tours overseas and was in active service when the Berlin Wall was torn down. In the first part of his military career, he served as an MP and also did canine training. He was a member of the Iowa National Guard for a number of years, then joined the Minnesota National Guard. After 9-11, he felt it was his duty to reenlist. Robert had many stories to share relating to experiences in the service. He was a Sgt. 1st Class in the U.S. Army.

Robert always had a smile on his face; he seemed to light up a room when he walked in. “He gave the best hugs in the world that made you feel like everything is OK.” He loved to tell jokes and stories and never said a harsh word about anyone. Robert always had a dream—a purpose—attempting to make things better for his family. He had a passion for flying, loved scuba diving, sky diving and motorcycles, But, most of all he loved his family. Robert was an avid hunter and fisherman. He had an unrelenting belief in God. Robert currently had two of his own businesses, Robert Edward–Custom parts over the road for semi drivers and Easy Lite Hardwoods (you have all seen his bundles of firewood at Quick Star and Casey’s in northeast Iowa and southwest Wisconsin).

Survivors include his children, Derek Schuety, Megan Schuety, Dillon Schuety, Kara (Andrew) Armstrong, Jared (Allison) Burkle, Zack Tade; grandchildren, Axel, Madeline, Oakley, Zoey and Paisley; his father, Edward (Audrey) Kuehl; siblings, Steve (JoAnn) Schuety, Christopher Kuehl, Ingrid Kuehl, Emily Kuehl, Cheryl Kuehl; eleven nieces and nephews and numerous friends.

Robert was preceded in death by his father and mother, and his brother, Vernon Schuety.
