Christina Emma Lena Niehaus passed away on Thursday, March 1, 2018, at the Edgewood Convalescent Center.

Funeral services were Monday, March 5, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Guttenberg, conducted by Rev. Shane Anderson. Visitation was before services at the church. 

Interment was at Guttenberg City Cemetery.

Arrangements were handled by Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home, Guttenberg.

Christina was born on Jan. 25, 1925, the daughter of Arnold and Emma (Theodore) Stickfort in Garnavillo. She was baptized on April 6, 1925, in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Garnavillo. She grew up on a farm outside of Garnavillo, graduating from Garnavillo High School in 1942. After high school, Christina worked in Dubuque for three years and then later as a nurse’s aid at the Guttenberg Care Center for many years. On April 20, 1948, Christina was united in marriage with Virgil Niehaus at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Garnavillo and the couple were later blessed with two sons, Jerry and Ronald. Christina worked beside her husband on the farm while working at the care center. She enjoyed gardening, baking, (especially all those cookies), embroidery work and taking care of her chickens. She was a long time member of St. John’s Church and Ladies Aid, where she served in each officer’s role with the organization. Christina also helped out many years with Vacation Bible School. 

Christina will be forever loved and cherished by her two sons, Jerry (Cynthia) Niehaus and Ronald (Audree) Niehaus; three grandchildren, Avonique (Jason) Tipsword, Danielle and Carrie Niehaus; sister-in-law, Pat Niehaus and many nieces, nephews, family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; siblings, Earl Stickfort Sr., Mary Stickfort in infancy, Fern Terveen, Irma Blume, twin sister Lena Hempeler, Leona Schroeder and Ivanelle Schlake.
