Elder Arlan Dyb
Elder Arlan Dyb, 89, of Eastman, passed away peacefully on March 19, after a short illness.
He was born Jan. 29, 1929, in Mt Sterling, to Carl and Julia Runice Dyb, Elder lived his entire life in Crawford County.
Elder was passionate for life. He never met a stranger, and enjoyed the camaraderie of all, especially if they played Euchre. He worked for Standard Oil/Amoco and owned Dyb Oil Company. In his retirement years, he also worked at Olson Feed Service and Shihata Orchards. Community service played a big role in his life; he was a member of the Lions and the Order of the Eagles. He also served on the Lynxville Village board. He was a great sports fan, avidly following the Packers, and the Brewers, as well as teams from the University of Wisconsin and Seneca High School. He was an avid bowler and also played baseball and softball, including many years as a proud player for the Seneca Farmers Slow-Pitch Softball team. Living to eighty-nine years old, and all his adventures, including ski jumping, driving milk truck at age fourteen, breaking his left arm at age five and cutting his finger on a bottle trying to get a cork to go fishing. His proudest accomplishment in life is he and his wife Mary raised five wonderful children all of who graduated from college and earned master degrees and doctorates, something he loved to boast.
He married the love of his life, Mary Hammond, and enjoyed a vibrant partnership of over fifty years until her passing in 2007.
Elder is survived by his children Rachelle Miller (Mike Dean), of Grand Rapids, Mich., Joanne Dyb-Dusso, of Sun City, Ariz., Donna (Rollie) Aspenson, of Ferryville, David (Andrea) Dyb, of Clintonville, and Andrew (Angela) Dyb, of Hammond; siblings Lila (John) Cadwell, Judy Kins and Larry (Patty) Dyb, all of Scottsdale, Ariz.; sister-in-law Amber Magnusson, of Lansing, Iowa, as well as thirteen grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many loving nieces, nephews and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; brothers Reuben, Corman and Luke; brother-in-law Douglas Kins; and son-in-law, Peter Miller.
A special thank you to all of the Seneca sports coaches and teams that gave Elder many hours of enjoyment in his retirement years.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m., Friday, March 23, at Thornburg-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Prairie du Chien. There will also be a one-hour visitation before services at the church on Saturday. A celebration of life service will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, March 24, at Utica Lutheran Church, Mt. Sterling, with Rev. Nile Sandeen as the officiant. Elder will be laid to rest at Utica Lutheran Church Cemetery, Mt. Sterling. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to an organization of your choice.
