Primary winners vie for W-S School Board seat
Political newcomers Mara Hird and Kathleen Schwartz will face off in the April 3 spring election to the Wauzeka-Steuben School Board. The two women earned the right to contest one another for the seat by receiving more votes than incumbent and board president Bill Marfilius in the Feb. 20 primary.
Hird is a lifelong district resident and People’s State Bank consumer loan officer in Wauzeka. She is married with two young children.
Schwartz has lived 10 years in the district and is a De Soto Middle School teacher. She is married with two adult children.
The winner of the spring election will take Marfilius’ seat on the board in a time when Wauzeka-Steuben is in the preliminary stages of considering a future referendum to achieve facility repairs and prospective renovations.
